Summer has started!!!

School is finished and I have so many thoughts in my head. I just want to thank all the great amazing talented faculty that have helped me out these 4 years into becoming who I am. I also wanted to thank all my school mates who without them, I would be nothing. They all truly inspire me to make myself better and work harder. The amazing and talented people I was blessed to see everyday always brought a smile to my face. Nothing beats the feeling of going in the studio and being surrounded by familiar faces and feeling like you were home.

I'm truly going to miss Sheridan and room A128 & A130 (YAH shoutout!) and hopefully I will be back to visit in years to come!

I got so many other things to say but lets keep this blog a happy blog haha. IN OTHER NEWS, here is a completely unrelated picture of a milk carton I did today (I guess it could be a metaphor for growth??? no??...dammit..).

Anyways, I wish good luck to all the students of Illustration 09' and all the best. I know you'll all do great, and hopefully we'll all keep in touch!!

Love,
Juan Carlos Solon

Pow! Smash! Mantracked!

The end is near!!! Gradshow/Graduation/Cryduation its all coming to a close. I have mixed emotions at the moment, part of me is happy but part of me is nervous and I have that "What's Next?" feeling inside my head. Still, I keep a positive attitude in the future and trudge on forward...wow I said trudge.

Anyways! Heres the process of my last piece in interprative Illustration class called "The Mantracker"!!. If you don't know who mantracker is please check this site out. Pretty much its a guy tracking down human contestants and capturing them on TV, AND..it's a Canadian show!! hurray for pride!.

Mantrackers eyes are the main attribute that pops out in the show, So I wanted to do a funny take on how powerful and fearsome his eyes are!.

I start with many roughs trying to get a likeness right from references. I draw the caricatures in the poses I had in mind for the idea. I thought this one worked so I went with it.

I use a combo of photoshop and pencil to sketch out the rough.

After a few edits and moving things around in the rough, I use a lightbox to keep the feel the rough provides. As well to get a nice clean line drawing. Thanks to Nimit for the picture!

Here is the final line drawing I get.

After I get the line drawing, and some ink and the magic of computer, I get this!! Well that's about it! its April and its snowing outside I think that's usually a good sign (cue the heavy sarcasm....and now)
